HISTORY

A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT ACTON AGUA - DULCE AND ITS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

ACTON AGUA - DULCE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HISTORY

The Acton-Agua Dulce Chamber of commerce was incorporated in 1954 and merged with Agua Dulce in 2015. The chamber worked as the primary civic group until the formation of the Acton and Agua Dulce Town Councils. The chambers primary function is to promote business in Acton and Agua Dulce and their trade areas through educational, economic, legislative, civic, social and cultural programs and affairs. We serve as a forum for business networking, solving business problems, and providing educational material while promoting business directly and indirectly.

ACTON AGUA - DULCE HISTORY

Acton and the Agua Dulce are small residential communities in Northern Los Angeles County, descendent from the Gold and Silver mining industry of the 1800s, and are located in the rugged Sierra Pelona Mountains. They are located just off of that Antelope Valley Freeway (Highway 14) between Palmdale, and Canyon Country, roughly 20 miles Northeast of the San Fernando Valley and 47 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. The area has a rural western theme which can be seen in its homes, commercial and historical buildings (some of which date back to the late 1800's). Acton is in the mounting pass with elevations of 2,700 to 3,500 feet and is very equestrian friendly. Agua Dulce is just to the West and is home to the Vazquez Rocks County Park and Interpretive Center, several wineries, and a community airport. Local organizations offer events such as a parade, fair, and many other activities. The homes in the mountains around Acton and Agua Dulce offer great views of the mountains and valleys. Zoning provides for large lots, in addition to Standard size properties, ranging in size from 1 to 10+ acres making the area perfect for ranch style homes and states, often with equestrian facilities. Both communities have Los Angeles County approved "Community Standards Districts", which modify the County General Plan and are intended to protect the rural nature and country life we enjoy. Acton has a Metrolink commuter rail station, on its border with Palmdale that is themed in an "old western" style and has been seen in various movies and commercials. Água Dulce is home to a local airport nestled in a valley surrounded by farming and ranch properties. Both support a large variety of businesses, including: auto repair, art and jewelry, bakery, beauty salons, building supplies, computers, construction, dance studio, drug stores, catering, engineering, equestrian supplies and equipment, feed stores, florist, gas stations, graphic design, hey Jim, hardware, healthcare, landscaping, liars, markets in many markets, two newspapers, nurseries, pest control, print shops, real estate sales in development, restaurants and fast food, sanitation, storage and other service industries. Additionally, there are two County parks, a bank, many churches, four schools in the Acton/Água Dulce Unified School District, two Los Angeles County fire stations, Regional Forestry Headquarters, Los Angeles County Library, historic cemetery, old gold and silver mines, historic buildings and ranches, RV and trailer resorts, and a Metrorail station and an airport. There are many civic and service organizations, a Community Club and Town Councils.
